Day 5 - Panama Canal

April 15th, Panama Canal

In the early hours of the morning, we made our approaches towards the Panama Canal. We passed through the Cristobal Breakwaters at 0503 on a southerly course, entering the Bahia De Limon, where we embarked our local pilot at 0512. We entered the first of the three Gatun locks at 0700 making fast eight electric locomotives or Mules to safely guide us through. By 0748 we had risen up to the level of Gatun Lake as we cleared the final lock. We then set a south-easterly course bound for our anchorage. We 'let go' our port anchor at 0845 and commenced with our Tender service shortly after. Weather conditions: Partly cloudy and fine. Wind: North Easterly Beaufort Force 5. Temperature 27C/81F.
Noon Position: At Anchor in the Gatun Lake, Panama.
